Finally got it:

1) an aluminium case for my Rex6000. I simply searched for business card boxes in a big office paper shop. My (nameless) box is 6 mm thick, 93 mm long and 64 mm wide. Room enough for my Rex and...

2) a Saitek light stylus. This was a little bit too long, but it is not too difficult to shorten it:
a) Remove the black end of the "switch"
b) cut away the thin iron "needle", it is useless
c) turn the rest until the light is on
d) look how many millimeters you would be able to screw the "switch" even more
e) remove the battery
f) shorten the "needle" of the battery according to d), but be careful: if you shorten it too much, you can not switch it on anymore
g) put the pen together
h) shorten the black end, it must not be longer than the switch inside
All together makes the stylus about 12 mm shorter, and after that it is short enough to put it into the aluminium case.

I hope you understand my instructions. Embarassed

I got my light stylus yesterday from pcloaded.co.uk for 8.99 including postage and modified it this morning to fit my Rex case (pliers and Stanley knife). The result is exactly the same length as the original Rex stylus.

Works perfectly, but I was a bit surprised that the stylus has a dim orange light rather than a white one.

The case came from The Gadget Shop some time ago. It's supposed to be a small cigarette case. I lined it with adhesive backed black felt to protect the Rex from scratches.

Paul,

Thanks for these instructions: I found them clear and accurate. My new, shorter light stylus works perfectly and has rapidly become my new favorite stylus for all my cases.

Like Guy, above, I too was initially surprised at how dim the light was: I have found that it is just bright enough to light the actual area beneath the point, and not the whole screen. On the other hand, it means that the light is not distracting to others around you, so it will not be noticed in cinemas or other public places in near or total darkness (though I would not recommend using it during a performance of course!)

I've just modified another one of these after losing my last one, and am again pleased to have a shortened, REX-size, functional, light stylus. I haven't quite perfected the right way to shorten the plastic turn knob ("black end") that you wedge onto the end of the switch: I seem to always end up with a knob that is a bit difficult to turn. But once again, I would extend my thanks to Paul for discovering this particular light stylus and pointing out how to do the mod.

The Saitek Light Stylus is available currently for very cheap (on sale for $2.99 USD + MAPS) through Stylus Central. I have no affiliation with this company but have twice now ordered this stylus through them and they have been fast and reliable in both instances.
