Hi, I am new here. I have just bought a Rex 6000 2MB. I am evaluating the possibility of replacing my faithful Sharp Zaurus 5800, which I use nowadays primarily for contacts and calendar / "to do".
My Zaurus (which is also 2MB) currently has close to 2500 contacts. I can search any word / text string within these contacts, and also within the calendar.
It would seem that the Rex does not offer that search function; am I correct? |

When evaluating the possibility of switching to the REX 6000, you should be aware that you might be approaching the upper limit to the number of contacts you can carry: the number you can carry varies from around 2500 up to 4000, depending on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, how much information you store with each contact.

This functionality can be achieved through the use of an "Add-in" called Find. The search function can be pretty slow on a large set of contacts like you have, but if you are not in a hurry it will eventually finish(!!) -- I've used it with a database of about 2000 contacts and sometimes had to wait a couple minutes for it to finish a search.

Great; thanks. I will have a look at the "Find" program.
As for the 2500 contacts (and appointments, and some minor documents) currently on my Zaurus, they occupy only 45% of the memory (2MB). Do you mean that, for the same contacts, the Rex would need more memory than the built-in 2MB? |

I don't have time to provide a proper response or locate reference links at the moment, but in general, people have found that the REX 6000 does not always store contacts very efficiently, and in some cases, especially for those who use categories in Outlook, the space occupied does not correspond to the space occupied in other models. For e.g., I found I could hold almost the same number of contacts in my 512MB REX 5000 as in my 2MB REX 6000 -- but I forget offhand if the number of contacts I had was 2500 or 4000.
There is no way to increase the built-in memory in the REX 6000. 2MB is the largest you can ever have.
